FG Empowers Farmers in Gombe State with Agricultural Inputs

The Federal Government has distributed quality seeds and agricultural inputs to smallholder farmers in Gombe State. The farmers received 10,000 gum Arabic seedlings, 15 metric tonnes of rice seeds, 2.5 metric tonnes of groundnut foundation seeds, 1000kg of castor seeds, and 1500 kg of cashew nuts.

According to the Minister of State for Agriculture and Rural Development, Mustapha Shehuri, the inputs would ensure food security, create jobs for the youth and enhance dry season farming. Shehuri said that the ministry would support breeder and foundation seed production. In addition, the ministry will also collaborate with private seed companies to ensure that farmers have access to seeds nationwide. Some of these seed companies include BORA Agro Nig. Ltd, Dizengoff Nigeria, IITA GOSEED, and Institute for Agricultural Research and Training (IAR&T).

Shehuri added that 35% of the inputs are targeted at female farmers, in line with the National Gender Action Plan and policies. This will ensure increased opportunities for women in the state. One of the key elements of the policy is economic reforms to enhance productivity and policy efficiency.
