The National Agency for Science and Engineering Infrastructure (NASENI) has been directed to distribute all refurbished tractors to farmers to boost agricultural activities across the country. President Muhammadu Buhari gave this directive after he was briefed about the agency’s activities in an effort to continue to revamp the agriculture sector.
One of the modern equipment required for successful farming, especially for tilling the ground is that tractor. The lack of access to this equipment has caused issues for farmers and has hindered mass production. The Institute has confirmed that it has refurbished several tractors in Niger State, in partnership with Machine and Equipment Consortium Africa (MECA) and the Nigeria Incentive-Based Risk Sharing System for Agriculture Lending (NIRSAL).
The President assured that his administration would keep an eye on the increasing food cost in the nation and to ensure food security by investing in mass food production. As a result, he gave the directive to distribute the tractors ahead of the next farming season.
NASENI was established to conduct developmental work in the areas of manufacturing. It is capable of coordinating the proliferation of technologies developed. Technologies developed in the areas of spares, components and systems engineering are to be transferred to entrepreneurs for the production of goods and services.
